Cape Woolamai Beach

Cape Woolamai Beach is a famous surf spot set against ancient pink granite.

This National Surfing Reserve is renowned for its rich surfing heritage and stunning natural attractions, which also happens to be the highest point in Phillip Island.

Aside from surfing, the beach also boasts of having the longest exposed beach in the area. It draws crowds in the thousands each year, including visitors and surfers of varying levels. For surfers, there are around five surf breaks on the beach to choose from, some of which are considered to be the best in Victoria.

This is also a great beach to visit for families with kids since it is one of the only beaches that are patrolled by lifeguards. Bring along your loved ones to enjoy time by the sea. When you get hungry, just walk over the nearby restaurants and cafes – many of which have terrific views of Cape Woolamai Beach.

Those looking for outdoor activities will enjoy the hikes and trails along the coast. We recommend making the trek up to Cape Woolamai to enjoy the stunning 360-degree views.

Not too far away is the charming town of Newhaven, where visitors can rent bikes to explore the beautiful island on the way to Woolamai Beach.

Cape Woolamai Beach headland is home to important wildlife including the breeding colony of the Australian muttonbird. It also falls within the Phillip Island Important Bird Area due to the populations of Pacific gulls and penguins. The best time to catch a glimpse of these birds is at night since the Australian muttonbirds make their way to their nests at the end of the day.
