The Trestle Bridge is a famous site in town – constructed right over the Bourne Creek and is protected by the National Trust. It was initially built to assist the Victorian Railways transport coal from the old Powlett Coal Fields, but today remains significant because a majority of the steam-powered trains from 1911 to 1978 crossed through this bridge. The Trestle Bridge is also part of the iconic Bass Coast Rail Trail.

The Bass Coast Rail Trail is in itself a major highlight of Kilcunda. It’s a terrific destination for cycling, walking, and horse riding. The flat trail begins near the roundabout heading to Phillip Island and ends at the shopping district of Wonthaggi. It is also the only coastal rail trail in Victoria. Along the way, visitors are treated to an array of scenic sights including coastal bushland, historic mining reserves, farmland, and so much more.

The Kilcunda Lobster Festival is one of the most widely anticipated events in town. This annual event is conducted to help raise funds and takes place at the Kilcunda foreshore. The lobster spinning wheel is a highlight of the event, as visitors look forward to winning a massive fresh lobster! There are several exciting attractions during the festival for both kids and adults, including a carnival, market, animal nursery, and so much more.

Fishing is a popular activity in Kilcunda. Avid anglers can enjoy catching trout, yellow-eyed mullet, and salmon here. There are several fantastic cafes and restaurants in the town as well. Other attractions include the kids’ playground, Kilcunda Ocean View Hotel, Wonthaggi Market, and Wonthaggi Golf Course.

Kilcunda is abundant with historical and outdoor attractions, so be sure to check these out for an unforgettable trip in the Bass Coast Shire.
