Phillip Island Beaches

With an extensive coastline which boasts 26 beaches, Phillip Island is a premier beach holiday destination in Victoria. Calm swimming beaches, surf beaches, sandy and rugged coastline and azure water are the main things that you will discover on Phillip Island.

Phillip Island beaches are best for surfing, diving and swimming. The island’s weather is mild all throughout the year which makes its beaches a favourable place to enjoy many fun-filled water activities.

Phillip Island beaches also include few patrolled surf beaches at popular scenic areas. However, visitors should note that lifeguard services only operate during the Summer months and lifesavers are only on duty when the red and yellow flags are displayed.

The southern beaches best for surfing include Woolamai Surf Beach which as strong rips and currents; Surf Beach and Surfies Point are popular surfing spots not recommended for swimming; Smiths Beach and YCW Beaches are perfect for less experienced surfers as they have gentle surf; Summerland Beach is home of the penguin parade and a great surfing spot.

The northern beaches are both good for swimming and surfing and include: Shelly Beach, Cat Bay Beach, Flynns Reef which is all good surfing beaches for beginners as there are small one metre waves; Ventnor Beach and Anchorage Beach are good swimming beaches and are not suitable for surfing; Red Rocks Beach is a popular swimming beach in summer, and Cowes Beach is a popular family beach due to its shallow water and facilities near the jetty.
