Purple Hen Winery

Phillip Island boasts some quaint and well-maintained wineries, including Purple Hen Wines, located in Rhyll on the island’s southeastern corner.

This beautiful winery is a family-owned business known for its premium wines, including white and red varieties.

Due to the cool climate at Rhyll, Purple Hen produces many high-quality wines from some of the best quality fruits. The winery follows a simple method in its wine production, so the wine always features an elegant texture, rich and clear varietal character and medium intensity.

Purple Hen has its own vineyard extending over 7 hectares, most of which are dominated by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. The winery also has another vineyard estate of 1 hectare in San Remo.

Winemakers at Purple Hen Wines collect some of the best fruits from both of their vineyard properties to make their wines. Some of the popular vines include Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Merlot. Similarly, white varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Viognier.

Visitors to the winery are welcome to take a tour and taste. The vineyard’s scenic setting and country-style decor make it a warm and welcoming place. Wine tasting is $5 per person, but the cost is refunded on any bottle purchase.
